GFX has a new trainer, Erin Rae!

Erin grew up in Oregon and moved from LA to San Diego after deciding to pivot from hairdressing to a career in fitness. Growing up playing sports and being a competitive athlete led to a love for all things group fitness later in life. While working long days doing hair in LA she fell in loved with Lagree and reformer pilates as a low impact way to stay fit, strong, and healthy. This sparked her career change and desire to work in fitness. She has a background in Lagree, Pilates, and group fitness. This girl loves a crazy core series and oblique burn. When she’s not teaching or working out, she loves to spend time with her dog Vinnie and get back to her roots in nature. She’s always in search of her next spontaneous adventure or new experience. After working out at GFX she fell in love with the sense of community and the workout itself, leading her to eventually join the team. She looks forward to pushing you physically while having the best time. Look for Erin on the schedule, you don’t want to miss this girls class!

Q&A with Kimberly

Who doesn’t love a little Q&A?! We decided to ask our head trainer Kimberly a few questions:

Why GFX?- Honestly, because it’s Scott, because it is an extension of what has already made him great. I fell in love with Scott’s workouts and his chill, yet extremely motivating vibe. He’s as professional as they come and knows his shit! All those things are extremely important to me when looking for a new workout space. Adds the cherry on top that he is a huge Notorious B.I.G. Jay-Z fan!

How did it start?- I kept showing up…I kept pushing myself and became more and more addicted to not only the workouts and what they were doing to my body and mind but to the atmosphere that Scott had created at Gemini Fit. I hit it off with Scott right away and I knew I wanted to somehow have him mentor me in a way, I just wasn’t sure how or when or what. The universe is an amazing thing if you keep doing the hard work and showing up, because…GFX was in the works for Scott, and he needed a head trainer that he could trust and invest in this new adventure with…. a partner, a right hand, someone he could “mentor” like he had been mentored himself in the past. Guess who he thought of….? ME! To say I was flattered would be silly, I was incredibly honored and took it as a huge responsibility. Patience was tested and then tested again. With all the pandemic setbacks we kept pushing forward. We started an adolescent program for teens Monday through Friday and now we have GFX open full time for group classes and the community we are cultivating is infectious!

Why are you here?- The fitness community we are creating is magnetic and the vibe is so positive and supportive. We have so much fun while pushing ourselves physically and mentally. The space is gorgeous to look at, the equipment is state of the art brand new, the music is killer, the workouts are challenging and different each time. I can get a great full body workout in 45 minutes, the recovery station is top of the line, most importantly the members! Truly some of the best people I have met. I feel incredibly blessed to get to be a part of their lives for 45 minutes each day they come. Truly.

What keeps you going?- The workouts are effective and challenging. They are high intensity but can be done with low impact, modifications are always encouraged, we push ourselves at GFX physically and mentally. It’s 45 minutes of hard work, it’s worth it and it feels so good afterwards. You never ever leave GFX in a worse mood than when you walked in. Our members are some of the most genuine magnetic personalities out there. We push ourselves, laugh, sweat, and honestly bond. As corny as it sounds…oh and gangster rap there is always gangster rap. 😉

Why Tabata?- It is one of the most effective workouts I have tried. It is a 45-minute full body workout each day. I have never left this class thinking, I need to go push myself more or I need more out of my workout that day. It is different every day, keeps your body guessing and it is high intensity low impact which is my favorite for getting up there in my 30’s. 😊
